The Silence series
Sewn Artificial Leather Paintings
At first glance the SILENCE series deals with our longing to create our personal paradise in a highly individualised society. A society that urges us to make our properties private and inaccessible for ‘the other’. Hence the abundance of fences and conifer hedges.
On a deeper level it represents the universal desire for security, safety and control on the one hand, and adventure, possibilities, discovery, hope, mind-expansion on the other.
I search to create a space that both mirrors and transcends these conflicting psychological needs. A paradoxical space that merges vastness with enclosure, loss with hope, safety with the unknown… digitalisation with craft…clarity with mystery… day with night… illusion with disillusion. A space that both comforts and challenges the viewer.
